ABOUT LOCAL CARE HOME - VOYAGE (DCA) NORTHUMBERLAND

We currently support a number of individuals who live in flats with their own tenancies in Blyth. The staff team have had intensive training in supporting tenants who have a dual diagnosis i.e. L.D. and mental health and who are subject to a section of the Mental Health Act. Most of the people we support are subject to a Community Treatment Order and subsequent restrictions within it and some have a forensic background. The team have been trained in Forensics, Personality Disorders, Mental Health Act and the Mental Health capacity act, DOLS and behaviours that can challenge. Whenever we have a new referral we receive specific training in the form of a workshop from the discharging authority.

Our aim is to support people to gain the necessary daily living skills and confidence to have their own home in the community with the option of receiving outreach from our team. The areas we concentrate on are budgeting money, working towards self medicating and ordering of own medication and anything else they will need in order to be able to cope with daily living in the community. We have had one tenant go through this process and he has now been living in his own flat in Blyth for six months. He still receives three hours per day outreach support from us and knows if he has a problem he can contact us outside of his agreed times.

We operate a flexible service with staff rotas put together to meet the needs and wishes of the tenants. We can potentially provide outreach support in Blyth, Ashington, Newbiggin By the Sea, Amble, Alnwick, Berwick, Lynmouth, Cambois, Prudhoe and Hexham.
