ABOUT LOCAL CARE HOME - THE SYCAMORES NURSING HOME
The Sycamores provides comprehensive support for adults with long term mental health problems, often combined with drug and/or alcohol addictions. In addition, many of the people we support have forensic background which may have caused them to be denied access to the wider community. The Sycamores provides an empowering and motivating environment where we enable people to become more independent.
The Sycamores offers a support for up to 15 adults, both male and female, between the ages of 18 and 60. We place the individual at the heart of everything we do and support people to maintain choice and control over their lives and priorities.
At the Sycamores we appreciate how important it is to employ a wide range of social, recreational and therapeutic activities. People are supported to attend courses run by local colleges and many of the people we support attend community groups and day-care courses. We support people to develop a range of skills including DIY, cooking and dancing. We provide a range of leisure activities too, such as relaxation sessions, walking in surrounding Yorkshire Dales, DJing and going on excursions to theatres, cinemas, parks, libraries and shopping centres.
We really encourage people to suggest ideas and have an input into leisure, social and educational activities. We also support people to continue with the hobbies and interests they enjoyed before arriving at The Sycamores. Our main aim is to ensure that each person is supported to achieve the skills, knowledge and confidence they need to manage their lives and progress to the level of independent living that is right for them.
Meal times are an important part of the day. Our experienced catering staff prepare a menu of home cooked food every day and we cater for individual likes and dislikes from a cultural, religious or choice perspective.
