ABOUT LOCAL CARE HOME - THE MEWS

At The Mews we support four young people with profound and multiple learning disabilities.

We support each individual to develop their independence, living skills and decision making skills in order for them to achieve the best possible outcome. Everyone has a say in how the service is run, attending meetings and interviewing new staff. Food preparation is a favourite activity which everyone takes an active part in. The people who live here are also involved in staff training and choosing menus and the décor of their bedrooms.

We ensure everyone is given the opportunity to take part in a range of activities and play a role in the local community. We make use of a local private hydropool, which gives everyone the chance to exercise in a fun, relaxed environment. We also visit a local stable and attend amateur dramatic performances. There are opportunities to attend college for courses such as numeracy, literacy, cookery, and trampolining.

Staff are motivated and enthusiastic and always think of the best interests of those who live at the service. We have good working relationships with other professionals and multidisciplinary teams, many of whom have commented on the warm atmosphere in the service.

The service is wheelchair accessible and all bedrooms have ceiling tracking. The shared areas have been carefully designed to meet everyone’s needs, with features such as height adjustable tables and work surfaces. These facilities enable people to develop skills and build independence. There is a sensory room and a large garden.
