ABOUT LOCAL CARE HOME - THE HAWTHORNS

The Hawthorns was acquired by The Salvation Army in 1935 and has been used as a residential home since then. It is situated in Burlington Road in Buxton, Derbyshire and over the years there have been extensive improvements to the home, most recently in 1997. The home is opposite the beautiful Pavilion Gardens and within walking distance from most local amenities, shops, doctors’ surgeries, etc.

The Hawthorns has accommodation for 34 residents. Twenty-six bedrooms have en-suite facilities, whilst the remaining eight rooms have a wash basin. Each room has a call bell. There are 2 lifts that go to all floors. We have 3 lounges with TV and stereo, a Conservatory, enclosed patio and sensory garden; well tended grounds. A hairdresser visits the home every week.

We aim to provide a variety of entertainment and activities ranging from games, quizzes and bingo to arts & crafts, music and singing. We host visiting musicians, piano players, concert parties and even Salvation Army brass bands.

At The Hawthorns we recognise how important Christian faith and worship is to many residents.  We are a Salvation Army home and we aim to provide a religious programme familiar all main Christian denominations.
