ABOUT LOCAL CARE HOME - THE BRIARS
The Briars is owned and operated by Greensleeves Homes Trust, a ‘not for profit’ charitable organisation providing care and accommodation for older people.
Located in Sandown, on the Isle of Wight, The Briars provides specialist residential dementia care to 36 older people and also offers a dedicated day care service.
A finalist in both, the British Care Awards and the National Care Awards, The Briars is a leading example of care provision. On duty 24 hours a day, the home’s dedicated multi-disciplined team, provide high quality care. Staff at The Briars perform reminiscence exercises with the residents, so that we can understand people’s life stories and collate information about what is important to them.
We recognise that our residents have differing tastes and pleasures, and cater for each and every one as an individual. All food is freshly prepared to ensure dining is a real ‘occasion’, residents regularly update the menu with requests and ideas. A choice of delicious meals is always available with all special dietary requirements catered for.
The original Victorian building has been refurbished and extended to provide a specialist care setting. All 36 bedrooms are light and spacious and feature en suite facilities. The bedrooms are stylishly furnished and residents are encouraged to bring in personal items such as pictures, ornaments and small items of furniture.
With the sunnier climes of the Isle of Wight, the garden is the perfect place to relax, and as Winner of Sandown on Bloom 2012, The Briars’ gardens are a stunning place to be. Easily accessible via walkways this beautiful space is designed to stimulate the senses.
The Briars is accredited in the Eden Alternative philosophy of the care of older people. All our residents’ views, choices and preferences contribute to the daily running of their home. Regular residents meetings ensure that all the wishes of the residents are met.
