ABOUT LOCAL CARE HOME - SOUTHLANDS NURSING AND RESIDENTIAL HOME
Southlands dates from 1870 and was formerly one of Harrogate’s premier hotels. It is conveniently located within walking distance of Harrogate’s elegant and bustling town centre. The hotel has been converted to offer every modern convenience while retaining many of its original features.
The care we offer
Southlands offers long term residential nursing care. It also cares for residents with Parkinson’s disease and those with palliative and convalescent care needs. We offer respite and, where appropriate, we welcome the carer to also stay with us if they wish. Day care facilities complete our suite of services at Southlands.
Manager information
The manager of Southlands is Susan Sowden, who has over 25 years’ experience and knowledge built up from working in various care settings.
Food
Residents can expect to enjoy fine cuisine at Southlands. Each resident’s specific tastes and dietary requirements are catered for and the chef prepares a varied, seasonal and nutritionally-balanced menu from which to choose each day. As well as full cooked meals, there is always a cold alternative and an assortment of lighter options and snacks.
Guests are very welcome at mealtimes and we make sure to cater for special occasions such as birthdays with a celebratory meal and delicious home-made birthday cake, much to the enjoyment of all.
Activities
Our dedicated activity co-ordinator offers a variety of activities to choose from, including flower-arranging, croquet, wine appreciation, sherry mornings, pampering sessions, arts and crafts and concerts performed by local musicians, choirs, school children and opera singers.
Once a month we hold a special event that many residents look forward to participating in, which are tailored to the different capabilities. Themes might include Burns Night, Pancake Day or Mother’s Day as well as others.
We often arrange outings to places such as the theatre or Harlow Carr Gardens, and we like to take a trip to see the Christmas lights.
