ABOUT LOCAL CARE HOME - ORCHARD LEIGH
Orchard Leigh is a service for up to eight people with a mild to moderate learning disability. The service can also meet the needs of individuals with autism or sensory impairment.
Orchard Leigh is situated on the outskirts of the regency town of Cheltenham in Gloucestershire. It is a detached property located on a quiet road within walking distance of a shopping retail park that includes a large supermarket.
People who live at Orchard Leigh take part in numerous activities outside the service as a group, and also individually with one to one support from staff. These activities include swimming, attending day centres and college, support with home visits, trips to local attractions, such as the Cotswold Wildlife Park, and plenty of shopping trips.
There is also the opportunity to participate in evening activities such as going to the theatre and the cinema, meals at the pub and evenings out at a local disco.
Everyone can take part in activities within the service which help to develop their independent living skills. These include cooking and assisting with meal preparation, gardening and looking after their home grown vegetables, arts and crafts sessions and various themed evenings with entertainment and specially prepared meals.
The people who live at Orchard Leigh are involved in all aspects of the running of the service, from planning the menus through to the colour of their bedroom. The service has a close network with families and they produce a newsletter every three months, called the Orchard Leigh Star, which tells families and friends about news and events that have been taking place.
The service has six large bedrooms with en-suite facilities within the main house and there are two self contained flats to the side of the property. The kitchen/dining room has patio doors which lead onto the decking area and garden, making this an extremely social area of the service, particularly in the summer months.
