ABOUT LOCAL CARE HOME - NORTHFIELD HOUSE
At Northfield House we offer support to ten adults with learning disabilities, autism, cerebral palsy, epilepsy and physical disabilities, who like to lead an independent and active lifestyle.
We are committed to promoting independence and empowering the people we support. People who live at Northfield House are very much part of the local community, making use of local facilities such as the library, hairdressers, the supermarket, doctors surgeries, cafes and pubs.
We offer stimulating activities individually tailored to each person’s preferences, interests and skills and encourage everyone to try new experiences. People we support currently enjoy attending stable management courses and day centres, learning about video editing and undertaking courses at adult education centres. Each person is given the opportunity to increase their independence through work placements, such as working in local charity shops, elderly residential homes or nurseries.
Individuals are supported to be actively involved in decisions about all aspects of their lives. Staff are experienced and receive any training they need to meet each person’s needs.
Northfield House is in a rural location, close to the seaside. Nearby towns include Taunton, Minehead and Bridgwater. We make use of public transport, including buses and the steam railway to Minehead.
The service has ten bedrooms spread over the ground floor and first floor. The ground floor is wheelchair accessible and some rooms have en-suite facilities. The house has an open plan kitchen area, leading to a quieter lounge. There is a television lounge which looks out onto the decking area outside. This area is very popular for barbecues and socialising when the weather is good. At the top of the accessible garden is a summer house, with equipment for garden games. The service also has a relaxation room which provides a quiet place to enjoy a massage when our therapist visits.
