ABOUT LOCAL CARE HOME - HIGHFIELDS FARM
At Highfield Farm we support eleven people with learning disabilities and associated mental health problems. The people who live here have varying needs, which include Prader Willi Syndrome, autism, Asperger’s Syndrome, Down’s Syndrome, Rett Syndrome and Bi-Polar Affective Disorder.
Individuals enjoy an independent lifestyle attending college, working in the local community and volunteering in the local charity shops. Others choose to take advantage of the local amenities, visiting farms and the local busy town center with its myriad of shops. In the local town we have a friendly cinema where we are always welcome and who run special showings with subdued lighting and no trailers before the main feature, to make the experience more enjoyable for people on the autistic spectrum.
There are good public transport links. A short walk away is the Pennine trail where people can take a leisurely stroll or cycle as far as they like safely.
We have two spacious lounges both equipped with large flat screen TVs, dining room table and chairs and settees and easy chairs so people can choose where to eat their meals and where to relax. We also have a brand new fully equipped kitchen and open reception area where families can visit in a peaceful and relaxed atmosphere.
All the bedrooms have en-suite facilities with either a bath or shower, depending on the individual’s preference, and each room is decorated to their own needs and choices. Everyone is encouraged to practice their daily living skills in a safe environment.
Highfield Farm is set in large gardens with a greenhouse where we grow vegetables in the summer months and a summer house where people can chill out and relax. We also have a large heated swimming pool on site which everyone has access to whenever they wish. Also in the grounds are three villas where individuals can continue to build their independence safe in the knowledge that they have access to staff 24 hours a day through a nurse call system.
