ABOUT LOCAL CARE HOME - 48 HEATH ROAD

Set in Holmewood, a former mining village four miles south of Chesterfield, this service supports eight adults who have autistic spectrum disorders and behaviours that challenge. Set in the heart of the village, 48 Heath Road is a large, detached property. Holmewood is a well established residential area, surrounded by unspoilt country, yet within easy reach of shopping, leisure and educational facilities in Chesterfield. 

We encourage everyone to make use of the wide range of facilities that are available in the area. These include local colleges, horse riding centres, a hydrotherapy centre, cinemas and theatres and the 'Five Pits Trail', which offers very pleasant walks and is a haven for wildlife. We aim to support people to improve their independence skills and have incorporated a training kitchen.

We use TEACCH to enable people with autism to understand their immediate environment, develop their communication skills and make choices. We use Non-Violent Crisis Prevention Intervention to support people with challenging behaviours as it aims to de-escalate potential and actual situations and to maintain the wellbeing of the person concerned and others around them.

There are three large lounges, two of which have French windows overlooking the enclosed decked patio to the side of the property. When people are not accessing community based activities, they can use the fully equipped sensory room or the activity room. 

There are eight bedrooms, each of which has an en-suite bathroom with either a bath or a shower, depending on individual preference. The first floor can be accessed via the lift if needed. We encourage people to bring their own belongings and to decorate their rooms in the style they prefer. 

Outside there is a large, private patio where people can relax or participate in outdoor games or activities.
