Abbey House

This home has been open now for just over two years and had had a high turnover of staff. I think it is beginning to settle down and whilst some members of staff find it difficult to understand PWS things are improving and the house is becoming more settled.

My son is very happy living at Abbey house and is extremely well cared for. Prader Willi is a complex syndrome presenting many challenges. These are dealt with by the staff on a daily basis with care, understanding and compassion. A lot of time has been spent fine tuning the weekly activity programme to ensure that each individual takes part in activities that they enjoy doing. The staff work hard and cater for each individuals needs in all aspects of their daily lives . The house is light and airy and the garden is large with enough space to be used by all the residents. Abbey house feels like the home of one big family.

This is a new home for people with Prader-Willi Syndrome and we had concerns that our daughter was moving from a home that had staff with many years of experience with PWS. It is still early days but it seems our worries were groundless. Staff have been quick to learn the challenges presented with PWS and to so all they can to provide a safe, caring environment. We are particularly impressed by the number and range of activities available to our daughter, who is happy and contented. As time has progressed the new house has developed into a real home.

This home is a newly opened home for adults with Prader Willi Syndrome. Although the staff had limited experience of the syndrome they have undergone training and have succeeded in creating a happy home with the staff showing a willingness to cater for all the needs oft he individual living at the home. My daughter leads a very active life and her weight is well monitored. She enjoys looking after her rabbit, volunteering at a farm and horse riding and they organise many outings. The house itself is newly refurbished with big rooms and a large garden. The position is excellent.
