ABOUT LOCAL CARE HOME - WOODBANK (MHA)

A 38-bed Home set in a leafy suburb in Surrey, Woodbank began life as a Home for “retired missionary ladies”.

In 1952 Florence Lowe donated the home to MHA and in 1958 a completely new purpose-built Home was constructed. It now accommodated 22 residents – retired missionaries and widows of ministers. In 1980, this building was extended at a cost of £300,000 and for the first time men were offered places at Woodbank.

The nearby Trinity Methodist Church has established an active “Friends of Woodbank” group.  They work to raise funds to supply “extras” over and above regular funding – outings, for example, chiropody, newspapers and flowers. Such extras reflect the care that makes Woodbank, in the words of one a resident, “a very special place.”
