ABOUT LOCAL CARE HOME - THE CHILTERNS

Part of Optima Care, a leading health and social care provider, The Chilterns is the site name for 3 separate houses that provide a high quality step down opportunity to individuals who are affected by intellectual disabilities (learning disabilities) and associated mental health issues.  Some of whom have had a history of multiple placement breakdowns and contact with the criminal justice system or secure services.

There are 3 Houses

Stepping Stones, two self-contained floors for up to 5 male residents each floor.
Sunny Beach which has a 5 bedded self-contained area and 3 more independent rooms and living space for males.
Rock Rose stands in its own grounds and is a service specifically designed for women.  Rock Rose includes a top floor bedroom and lounge suite.
The 3 houses enable gender specific tailored support and risk management in small and homely environments.


The service philosophy at The Chilterns is to focus on managing levels of risk whilst giving each person the opportunity to participate in life-skill building, educational development and safe community engagement with a supportive network of skilled clinicians that enable positive risk challenges to be achieved on an individualised person centred pathway.

Our 2012 CQC inspection report shows that we are meeting all required standards.  However, we constantly strive to improve the service that we offer.  The following is taken from the CQC website:

"People told us that they were happy with the care and support they received and that their needs were being met.  They said that the staff treated them with respect, listened to them and supported them to raise any concerns they had about their care.  People told us that the service responded to their health needs quickly and that staff talked to them regularly about their plan of care and any changes that may be needed.  People told us they felt safe living at The Chilterns.  The atmosphere was seen to be relaxed and calm".
