Morning Routine
The morning shift starts at 7:00am when the 2 Senior Carers and 5 Carers take over from the night staff and begin the process of getting residents up, bathed and ready for breakfast. There is no rush to get up at Swarthmore; staff assist residents as required, preferring to allow them to do as much as possible for themselves.
Breakfast is prepared to suit individual residents and they can have whatever they wish, including a full English cooked breakfast.
Morning is usually the time of day when the District Nurse, Chiropodist and hairdresser visit, however they may also visit in the afternoon if required.
At 10:30am we serve coffee and cake in the dining room.
Activities
Swarthmore has a full time Activities Coordinator who arranges a full programme of activities throughout the day, with something to please everybody.
Lunch
Lunch is served at 12:30pm in the dining room. Lunch is a very sociable occasion, an opportunity for the residents to spend some time together with the care team.
Swarthmore enjoys themed lunches, e.g. St Georges Day, Easter, St Patricks Day, BBQ etc.
Afternoon
Visiting entertainers come in the afternoons to provide a variety of musical entertainment, residents also enjoy an annual boat trip on the River Thames and visiting the Christmas Markets in the area.
At 3:00pm residents enjoy afternoon tea with beautiful homemade cake & biscuits.
Supper
Residents enjoy a lighter evening meal, comprising of homemade soup, a small main meal and a dessert. There is always a wide variety of food to choose from and snacks throughout the day.
Time for Bed
Like getting up in the morning, bed time is a relaxed affair, with residents going to bed at a time that suits them. Some residents like to go to their rooms to watch TV, whilst others enjoy a chat in the lounge. Following a nice hot drink residents retire
Night staff check the resident’s 2 hourly throughout the night and all rooms have a PIR that alerts staff if a resident is out of bed.
