ABOUT LOCAL CARE HOME - RED HOUSE

Red House provides care and support to seven people with a range of needs, including learning disabilities, autistic spectrum disorders, Prader–Willi Syndrome, mental health issues and epilepsy.

Red House is situated in the town of Ilkeston, within two minutes walking distance of the local shops and is also close to the local swimming baths, cinema and bowling centre. There is also a local college.

The people who use this service will be encouraged to maintain and develop skills, interests, friendships and activities which maximise their independence. Detailed Person Centred Planning gives individuals the opportunity to pursue interests and activities of their choice, which will enhance their quality of life, both within the service and using facilities in the surrounding area.

We support individuals to use local facilities and to become fully included in the local community. We believe that everyone can be enabled to exercise choice and will support each person in making decisions, ranging from day to day choices about clothes and meals, to larger life decisions.

Red House is a large Grade II listed detached property with gardens on three sides. The service has eight double bedrooms, each one with an en-suite bathroom, which has either a bath or a shower depending on individual preference. We actively encourage people to bring their own belongings and to decorate their room in the style they prefer.

There is a large lounge where people can spend time together, watch television or DVDs and listen to music. The activity room has access to the side garden, which boasts a chicken coop and vegetable patch. There is also a spacious dining room and a domestic kitchen where everyone is supported to prepare varied and well balanced meals.
