ABOUT LOCAL CARE HOME - KINGFISHER HOUSE (MHA)
Purpose-built in 1992, Kingfisher House offers nursing care to 38 residents alongside Herondale, which was purpose-built in 1993 to provide 36 nursing dementia places. The homes were acquired by MHA in 2005.
The homes are located between Birmingham Heartlands Hospital and the site of the former Yardley Green Hospital. The latter is in the heart of a regeneration zone and has recently seen the opening of the Tamarind Mental Healthcare Centre adjacent to the homes. There is a flexible approach to caring, summed up in the comment of one resident, "If there is ever anything I don't want or like about the food on offer I am given something of my choice to have instead. I am always looked after. I am happy."
Whilst the care for residents is central to the work of Herondale/Kingfisher House, staff members are also aware of the positive impact that their work can have on family members. "We feel privileged that she was accepted by you into such a caring, compassionate and loving community," wrote one grateful relative about a loved one. "The burden on us to find the 'right' home was enormous. We found you. We could not have chosen better. We will always be grateful and think of you as part of our family. We could rest day and night knowing that she was in the very best of care 24 hours a day."
