ABOUT LOCAL CARE HOME - IVYDENE
Ivydene supports nine people with learning disabilities in the Portswood area of Southampton. The people living at Ivydene are aged late forties to early eighties and the home is well equipped to provide care for people as they become older.
Those living at Ivydene enjoy crafts, music and chatting as well as accessing local day services, other personalised activities and day trips.
The staff team are very positive and encourage personalised activity schedules, community involvement and skill maintenance in day to day tasks and household activities as well as personal interests and hobbies.
Social opportunities and positive relationships with friends and family are also actively promoted.
The home manager has a wealth of knowledge and experience in supporting individuals with learning disabilities and associated ageing needs.
The accommodation is spread over three floors. The ground floor has a large kitchen, lounge, dining area and a sun room which offers a separate area for the various crafts enjoyed by the people living in the home.
There is a ground floor bathroom with overhead hoist and a first floor wet room which can be accessed via the lift or stairs. The service has a wheelchair accessible vehicle.
Portswood is on the coast by the River Itchen. Neighbouring areas are Bassett and Swaythling to the north, Bevois to the south and Shirley to the west. To the east is the riverside area of St Denys which has a railway station and is the gateway to Bitterne via the Cobden Bridge.
Portswood Precinct is just a short walk from Ivydene and is a vibrant area with busy local shops. The people living at Ivydene are supported to access the local library, shops, bank and pubs. Favourite places they like to visit include Sprinkles ice cream parlour, Poppins café, the local church, pubs and shopping at the local supermarket. All of these are less than a five minute walk from the home. Southampton City centre is also a short drive from the home.
