ABOUT LOCAL CARE HOME - GARFIELD GRANGE

At Garfield Grange we provide a respite service for up to 12 guests who have a learning disability. We can support people with a range of needs including autism, epilepsy and Down’s syndrome, and can access specialist training relating to other needs, as required.

Our aim is to make every guest’s stay as enjoyable, fun and active as possible and ensure all their physical, emotional and social needs are met.

The service is in a pretty rural village. We feel community participation and presence is very important and are always looking out for local events we can attend. Local pubs make us very welcome. Some guests live with older parents, and coming to stay at Garfield Grange has opened up a variety of new social clubs, events and activities for them.

Guests are encouraged to communicate their views about the service at any time and we also hold monthly guest meetings. Everyone can participate in baking, food shopping and other life skills tasks, if they wish. We use different communication methods to ensure everyone can share their opinions, such as producing pictorial menus.

The dedicated staff team create a positive and welcoming atmosphere. We have a low staff turnover, which allows for good continuity of support. We encourage staff to bring new ideas and creativity to the service.

The accommodation at Garfield Grange is split between an eight bedroom house and a four bedroom bungalow with its own kitchen. The service is wheelchair accessible and we have specialist equipment, such as hoists, profiling beds and adapted bathrooms, to meet a range of needs.
