ABOUT LOCAL CARE HOME - DURHAM SHARED LIVES

Durham Shared Lives is a scheme where adults with learning disabilities are offered short-term, long-term or emergency care by people known as Shared Lives Providers. The care takes place in the home of the Shared Lives Provider.

Durham Shared Lives Scheme is registered with the Care Quality Commission (CQC).

How does it work?Durham Shared Lives recruits providers who are assessed by Shared Lives co-ordinators and are approved by the Durham Shared Lives Panel. The providers then support and care for adults with a learning disability.

The care takes place in the providers’ homes, enabling the person with a learning disability to live in a family environment and lead an ordinary life with support from the family as and when required.

The providers are monitored and supported by the Shared Lives co-ordinators. All providers are required to attend mandatory training.
