ABOUT LOCAL CARE HOME - DRAKES PLACE
Drakes Place is set in five acres of grounds on the edge of a country town and contains three services which provide support to individuals with varying needs.
At Drakes Place Main House we support fourteen individuals with a moderate learning disability. At the Oaks we offer support for five individuals with a moderate learning disability and physical disability, promoting independence and building life skills. Squirrel Park is a secure and supportive environment for nine people with profound and multiple learning disabilities and complex needs.
Staff at all three services encourage everyone to participate in a range of activities to suit their interests, offering support to help individuals find out what is available to them in the local area. Drakes Place has close links with several colleges and adult learning centres.
Drakes Place has a very active committee made up of people who live at the service, who discuss a varied range of topics, such as menus and planning parties and other entertainment. The committee is also involved in staff recruitment, attending interviews and filling in questionnaires using total communication symbols to express their opinions.
Within the service there is a varied programme of activities, including music and art therapy, and the service has a hydrotherapy pool and fully equipped sensory room. Individual exercise plans are created by our physiotherapist.
Drakes Place has a large number of communal rooms, offering the choice to socialise with others or spend time relaxing alone. The large grounds are divided into several smaller gardens which can be used for outdoor activities or relaxation.
